The Mission of the Lowell Philharmonic

The mission of the orchestra is to enrich the culture of the greater Lowell community through free classical music concerts. Through these concerts, we give local musicians an opportunity to perform in an orchestra and share their love of music with the community. Our particular focus is to encourage young musicians and give them rehearsal and performing opportunities that will help them grow musically. As part of our regular concert season, we invite young string students to perform with us in March. In the winter, we hold the Jeanne Selander Memorial Concerto Competition, named for one of the original members of the orchestra. This competition is open to young musicians through high school age. The winner plays a concerto with the orchestra at our May concert.
